Homestay Alleppey - Live your dream
When
you travel from Cochin to Trivandrum other than on the Kottayam route,
and you start seeing endless stretches of paddy fields and curvy
canals, after about an hour from Cochin, you know you’ve reached
Alleppey. The canals are beautiful. They swerve along country roads,
hugging the lagoons and hoisting trees about. You can see people wading
through them in canoes and country boats.
Alleppey is 71km south of Cochin and 147km north of Trivandrum.
Don’t be fooled that it’s just lagoons and backwaters. Where’re
backwaters without the sea? The Alleppey Beach is a famous one in the
subcontinent. Tourism and agriculture form the mainstay of the
district.
Tourists find this place absolutely enchanting. No wonder its
moniker is ‘Venice of the East’. It does resemble Venice. Only, it is
better! The snakeboat races are a spectacular sight to watch. The
Punnamada Lake in Alleppey is the place where the Nehru Trophy Boat
Race takes place on the second Saturday of every August. Visitors from
all over the world come here to watch it.
